Problems:
- Not enough in depth understanding of current immigrants' problems
- Inevitable barrier between the Canadian locals and new immigrants due to the out-dated stories about the railway workers, issues with Head Tax and so on...
- Misunderstanding/miscommunication between Canadian locals and new immigrants (language)
- Awkward language learning environment for new immigrants (adults)
- Immigrant problems is being taken too seriously which results the non-immigrants further themselves from the problem

You are right. People don't understand how difficult it is for immigrants to fit in. I personally think that some people, born in Canada English speakers are unwilling to learn about new cultures. I am an immigrant myself, and I've had horrendous, emotionally painful experience adjusting in school when I first came to Canada. And I feel like I had to "Westernize" myself to fit in. Anyway, I feel like there is still a lot of segregation in Canada. I also witness racism all the time - on the bus, at schools, and even through people I know.
People lack compassion and acceptance.
My parents lived here for 10 years. They try so hard to have perfect English because people still make fun of their accents.
